Menstrual cramps are usually painful and can be felt on the lower abdomen. This is a contracting pain which can be dull or extreme, depending on the severity. Usually, this pain is felt when the
egg cell is released by the ovaries and it travels down to the fallopian tube. This process is called as ovulation. On the other hand, the secondary type of dysmenorrhea is caused by an underlying
medical problem like uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and even pelvic inflammatory disease. This pain is characterized by cramping pain related to the mentioned conditions.
It is true that menstrual cramps are something that most women dread in their lives. When it is the "time of the month," women experience not only the physical symptoms of the cramps but also other
conditions such as bloating, fatigue, swelling, headache, irritability, mood swings, and breast tenderness, all of which are associated with a woman's menstrual period. These conditions may happen
one at a time or all at the same time. Depending on the severity of the cramps and the other symptoms, this can hinder some women from going to school or work. Menstrual cramps happen because every
month, the inner lining of the uterus would prepare for a pregnancy.
Savoy, by some accounts, was a late bloomer when it came to getting her first period. She did not start until she was in the seventh grade. From the start her monthly menstrual cycle was a cause
for trepidation. She would miss school on a regular basis every month during her cycle because the pain was so bad. "I needed help for menstrual cramps," says Savoy [not her real name], now a
21-year-old Senior in college, in Northern California. "I would take the maximum dose of an over-the-counter pain reliever then muscle through it. When I turned 16, I was still having so many
issues my parents discussed the situation with my doctor and I was put on high-dose birth control pills. That helped a lot." (Since birth control pills sustain more reliable hormone levels, they
can provide help for menstrual cramps.)

Being a woman, your body undergoes numerous changes throughout life. Initially, you go through the development of certain body parts like breasts, hairs under your arms and genital area and adding
to it, are the psychological changes. By the time you learn to adjust to these changes, the time for menstruation cycle arrives that brings a long list of discomforts and problems with it. When you
cross your teens or say, enter into adulthood, the biggest experience of your life is waiting for you- pregnancy. After pregnancy, you have to meet the challenge of upbringing the child with a good
mind and body. Then comes the time when you cross your 40s, the age of menopause which again changes your life physically and mentally both.
There are two types of dynsmenorrhoea,
1. primary dynsmenorrhoea- if you do not experience any underlying gynecologic disorder, then the pain is primary dynsmenorrhoea. Generally, it is caused by high levels of prostaglandin (a
substance that makes the uterus muscles contract and shed its lining). Though this is painful, yet it is not dangerous in any case. It almost disappears as you enter into mid20s or after you have a
baby.
2. secondary dynsmenorrhoea- pain caused by some underlying gynecologic disorder is called secondary dynsmenorrhoea. The reason may be the presence of a fibroid tumor (a benign tumor in your uterus
wall). This is a sexually transmitted disease (STD), endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease or an ovarian cyst or tumor.
Symptoms
Some women with ovarian cysts suffer from its debilitating pain during menstrual period. Most resort to taking medications to help relieve the pain to find out that it is not always effective yet
they do not have other options in easing the pain. Others turn to the natural remedy to get rid of the pain faster that taking the medications. Many women think that taking medications is the only
option in relieving the pain from ovarian cysts. The problem with it is that it is only palliative...meaning it helps with the pain but it does not eliminate the cause so the pain will not come
back...that is, it does not prevent the new cysts from developing or rupturing so the pain comes back.
No loving parent wants to see their offspring hurting. The effects of menstrual cramps both in the physical pain experienced as well as the physiological pain are not only difficult for your
daughter, but can create a difficult situation for those connected with her. Many young girls don't experience extremely painful cramps or emotional swings, but research has discovered that
increased pollution and pesticides affecting our children are contributing to them facing adult situations more often.
Dysmenorrhea can be treated with a variety of drugs, including pain relievers, sedatives, antispasmodics, prostaglandin inhibitors, and oral contraceptives. However, these drugs can and do produce
many unacceptable side effects. Aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of essential oils obtained from plants. When properly used, essential oils are very safe therapy for menstrual cramps without
harmful side effects.
In a randomized, placebo-controlled research conducted in Korea and reported by Han, Hur, Buckle, Choi , and Lee in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, 67 female college students
were eligible for the study if they reported a menstrual pain score of 6 or higher on a 10-point scale, had no systemic or reproductive diseases, and were not taking oral contraceptives. The women
were randomly assigned to an experimental group, a placebo group, or a control group.
